Calibration support with a real power meter

Postby dannyst » Mon Apr 13, 2015 3:35 am

It's me again :). WIth my garmin, whenever I turn it on now, it asks if I want to calibrate my power meter. From what I understand, temperature differences basically alter the offset +- a few watts because of how the temperature changes the cranks physical properties. So before I start any ride on the road, I tell the garmin to calibrate, and a few seconds later it shows me that it has finished (displaying the new offset number it uses in its measurements). At this time of year when I often ride outdoors in 40 degree weather, and then the next day will ride indoors at room temperature, I can't help but wonder if I wouldn't want to calibrate my power meter with Peripedal before starting a workout.

It probably isn't that huge of a deal, but it could be nice to get the indoor and outdoor world that much more consistent. I don't know how many of your customers have a power meter, so I understand if this isn't a huge priority. I would be happy if it happened though.

Hi dannyst,

Out of curiosity, are you able to calibrate your power meter with your Garmin inside? I think this is how most users handle calibration when using PeriPedal, they are using their Garmin head unit too.

I will consider this for a future update though, thanks for the suggestion.

I typically don't have my garmin attached, but I certainly can do that. Now that warmer weather is here, I find myself using Peripedal a lot less often, so I will keep that in mind this fall :)
