Alternate FTP test - 8 minute test

Postby dannyst » Mon Dec 23, 2013 4:29 pm

Trainerroad has two different rides you can do to test your FTP. They have the 20 minute threshold that we have on Peripedal, and they have a second one that has two 8 minute intervals that are used with a different calculation to give you your threshold. I have liked the 8 minute test better, but maybe that's just because I am a wuss. If it would be possible to get that one with Peripedal, that would be awesome.

Here is the workout, but I'm not sure if Adam has to do anything to it for testing purposes.

The 20 minute FTP test is pretty much the gold standard in FTP testing, as far as I can tell. I'm no coach, but from what I've read the 2x8 minute test isn't as accurate as the 20 minute test because it isn't continuously long enough. Ideally the FTP test should actually be 60 minutes. :)

If there is a good reliable alternative to the 20 minute test I would be happy to add it, but most of what I've seen about the 2x8 minute tests are that they aren't that good at calculating FTP. I'm happy to read otherwise if you want to link me to a page to read more about it.

Thanks for the suggestion!
